Protect What Matters

Fire Safety Starts with a Home’s Exterior

When fire strikes, the difference between safety and catastrophe can come down to seconds. A home’s exterior can be a crucial first line of defense — especially in fire-prone environments.

By choosing the Hardie® Plank family, you're taking a step towards protecting your home. It's an A2 fire-rated cladding, meaning it does not contribute towards a fire. This can give your family precious extra time to evacuate — and emergency services more time to respond.

Your Home’s First Line of Defense

Your home’s exterior plays a crucial role in slowing the spread of flames and protecting what’s inside. Hardie® Plank family’s fire performance classification means:

  • Limited combustibility: A2-rated materials are non-combustible with limited contribution to fire.
  • Very low smoke production (s1):The best smoke class s1 means minimal visible smoke,  emitted during the first 10 minutes of fire exposure
  • No flaming droplets (d0):Class d0 ensures no flaming droplets or particles during the first 10 minutes of fire exposure.

"Whilst not the only measure to think about, James Hardie’s cladding can be a contributing factor in helping to protect your home against external fire.
