Hotel Castel Clara Belle Ile en Mer, in Belle Île, France, has accommodated tourists since the 1960s. Last year a substantial renovation project was completed, where the hotel was extended from two to three storeys. The facade cladding was also replaced to use HardiePlank® fibre cement boards. The installation area was over 1000 m² in total.
”We had to choose a material that was particularly moisture resistant as the hotel is built near the sea. Therefore we decided to use HardiePlank fibre cement cladding due to its technical properties”, said Olivier Male, Deputy Hotel Manager.
Another important aspect of the renovation was to increase energy efficiency by using exterior thermal insulation, this was provided by the HardiePlank cladding.
In addition, the hotel management also wanted to increase the aesthetics and embellish the exterior. The HardiePlank cladding in cedar structure was installed horizontally to underline the classic maritime look and to blend in perfectly with the idyllic coastal landscape of the island of Belle Île. To obtain this look HardiePlank was installed in low maintenance ColourPlus™ Technology colours Arctic White and Pearl Grey.
”The installation of the fibre cement cladding proved to be quick and easy”, says Stephane Samzun, Hotel Manager. “Sizing of the HardiePlank panels were made directly on site, using the HardieGuillotine™ fibre cement cutting tool and a representative from James Hardie demonstrated the fast and easy installation using a nail gun on site”.
James Hardie fibre cement products are rot-resistant and engineered to better endure the harsh climatic conditions of the coast. With its low maintenance HardiePlank is the perfect choice for the long-lasting beauty for this 4 star hotel.
